There are many ways to celebrate this special day in the Church calendar. There are virtual church services and activities for all ages available on the Internet. If you do not know or remember anything about Palm Sunday, here is a link with video to help you. (https://www.umc.org/en/content/what-is-palm-sunday) If you would like a liturgy/plan of worship to use at home, here is another link (https://www.umcdiscipleship.org/book-of-worship/a-service-of-worship-for-passion-palm-sunday). But, for me (Pastor Elliott), I like to read Scripture. Matthew 21:1-11 (https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=matthew+21&version=CEB) provides the main Scripture for today. Put yourself in the story. Who are you? Are you the donkey? the old person trying to make out what is happening? a child trying to see everything? are you one of the disciples? which one? are you one of the Pharisees or Sadducees? Are you a Roman or temple guard? Select one of these or another and really consider what you are feeling and thinking while Jesus goes by. Ask God the Holy Spirit to help you more fully understand this event. And ask God the Father to guide you into a more complete relationship with God the Son, Jesus the Christ.
I will be back this Thursday with some more Holy Week offerings.
Blessings to you and yours, Pastor Bianca
Everyday the devotions page is updated with postings from people in the Great Plains Conference. As always, if you have a question or comment, contact Pastor Bianca at belliott at greatplainsumc.org. Thanks.
The church leadership and the pastor agree that there should be no services. We trust God and find our help in Him, but we also practice the good sense God gave us. There are many online and live streaming services one may use to worship at home. The Scriptures teach us that Jesus, our Lord, is present when two or three are gathered in His name. Well, when you are online, you are definitely with others. And if, by some situation, you are “alone”, please know that another promise of Jesus’ kicks in…”Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the ages.” Emanuel, God with us, will never leave you or forsake you…no matter what. If you need to email me for any reason, please do so at belliott at greatplainsumc.org and I will get back to you as soon as I can. I close with this truth in a beautiful image….amen.
